Travel is not free and when it seems like it might be free, there is always some form of payment... Even the most successful travel writers don't travel for free - travel is a part of their compensation for articles, social media mentions, etc. But that's all for a different article. I'm writing to let you know how you can save loads of money on travel this year!
So here you are --- 8 ways to access over $190 in travel savings this year!
Airbnb - $30+ off your first stay: Airbnb is one of the best ways to stay in amazing accommodations that don't break the bank - especially when traveling with a partner or group. Not only will you save on rent, but you'll often have access to a kitchen making it easier to save on dining as well. Use this link for a bonus off of your first stay.
Airbnb - $50 when you become a host: I know that some people are creeped out by strangers staying in their home, but think if you could break even on your accommodation every time you travel. It's starting to sound a bit more appealing, isn't it? When Tony and I travel we earn ~$100/night on our apartment in Barcelona. Worth it.
Hotel Tonight - $25 off your first booking using EPETERSON117: No longer just an app for “hotels tonight”, now you can book a hotel up to a week in advance and reserve the room for up to 5 nights. It's great for hotels and great for consumers. To redeem your $25, download the app, set up an account, and add the code "EPETERSON117" under “promotions” in your profile tab.
HotelQuickly - $10 off your first booking: HotelQuickly is only in APAC at the moment (South East Asia, Japan, and Australia), but it works very similarly to Hotel Tonight: find a last minute place, book it for up to five days and enjoy your vacation. My suggestion is to check out both apps, see which you like better and stick with it :).
Stayful - $25 off your first booking: Like Priceline, with Stayful you can name your own price on hotels, but unlike Priceline, you'll know exactly what you're bidding on before getting locked into a price. The site specializes in off-brand hotels meaning there's everything from fabulous boutiques to more modest star level accommodations. With 10-25% off list prices and a $25 discount, it's a no brainer to try it out.
Uber - $15 off your first ride with referral code UBERLIZCALI2UE: Uber's not in every city (can't wait until they're back in Spain!), but they operate in thousands of cities in North and South America, Europe, The Middle East, Africa, Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. If you've never had a private driver, you're going to love this private car service that picks you up with the tap of your finger and comes at a discount to taxis.
OTHER WAYS TO SAVE
Ebates - $10 sign up bonus: Alright so Ebates isn't specifically travel related, but it works great for travel. You buy things online, right? Ebates gives you anywhere from 1-25% back on those purchases and to get the money, all you have to do is cash their checks.
Install the Ebates Chrome extension. It will flash anytime you're on a site with rewards and with one click you can activate your cash back. I have Ebates linked straight to my “travel savings account” so that any rewards earned go right to my travel fund :).
CapitalOne 360 - $25 bonus: You don't have a travel specific savings account yet? It's time for a change. This is core to staying accountable to saving for your travel adventures. I'm a big fan of my CapitalOne savings account. Unlike so many savings accounts, there are no fees (or minimum balances) and you earn a bit of interest - not to mention the $25 bonus. Not bad for 20 minutes spent registering.
JetSetter - Save 5% always: I can't tell you how much Jetsetter will save you, but the potential is huge. Need an upscale hotel? Go to JetSetter. Get deals on everything from 5 star hotels in LA to all inclusive getaways in Greece. Check out “Today's Deals” for the best prices! (And if you sign up for Ebates you'll get another 1.5% cash back!)
